Love the light oily texture
I really like how lightweight this formula is. My skin feels soft and hydrated when I wake up in the morning. I like to also put it on my hands for hydration and collagen production. Please keep this product forever. I am definitely a lifelong customer!

Strange growth in the bottle!
I purchased 2 bottles for my mom last year. She finished the first bottle today. She was trying to get every single drop out of the bottle so she tried to dip a cotton swab in the bottle. It came out with some gross black residue! She opened the brand new second bottle and the oil is not a clear color like shown on the website. It has some brown/gray stuff (see last photo - bottom of the lid) GROSS!!!

No squalane please.
I used the 2 % emulsion and it was great. Unfortunately squalane gives me red reactions and I now switched to another brand for the 5 % without the squalane. Why is it not possible to make 5 % in emulsion?

Perfect !
I was really afraid to purchase 5% Retinol from the comments after having 2% Emulsion in practice. It is not sticky and oily at all, it is really soft and on my skin practically dries out very smoothly. I have normal, combination skin, without acne. It is first day of use for me and as for now i definitely feel satisfied with my purchase of getting higher concentration.

My desert island product!!
Only been using this for 3 days and I already see definitive results!
The oil is quite a dryish oil so it doesn’t feel sticky or tacky but rather smoothe and silky !

Absolutely amazing works like magic
I love this product. I purchased a similar retinoids product last year in the other suspension formula and absolutely hated the smell so I did g want to use it. So this year I’ve decided to buy the one in squalane to try and I absolutely love it. You don’t need a lot at all and I think some people have put too much on hence the really oily feel but if you just use a tiny bit it spreads really well. I then put my normal cream over the top and it just works perfectly.

I have been using this retinol for two years or more since I gave up Retin-A. Mostly because it was just too expensive. I’m 68 years old, people always compliments on my skin , they say I look like I’m in my 50s. Of course I use other products, but the retinol is priority. Thank you the ordinary.

I currently started using 0.5 then I’m on 1% ! What is the difference from retinol to granative Retinol ? Also is this stuff good for Stretchmarks ? If so should I start on the lowest % on a new part of the body ? Thank you
The difference between Retinol and granative Retinol is that the granative is oil based and has very little or no irritation on skin compared to the Retinol. It can be used on stretch marks but i have no evidence that it makes a huge difference... you may be better off just using any oils like bio oil which has some good evidence that it helps.

My skin is combination type. I used it nightly and noticed my skin get drier in the cheek and less oily in the T-zone in the morning. Is this reaction normal? How can I reduce the dryness while using it?
Hi,
Retinol is a weaker, over the counter version of tretinoin, a prescription vitamin A derivative that is highly effective in reversing sun damage and signs of aging. Vitamin A decreases fine lines, evens skin color, improves texture, tightens pores, and stimulates blood flow and collagen production.
However this is a powerful product that can have some side effects, for example; a brief sensation of warmth or stinging immediately after applying, peeling, excessive dry skin,burning,redness and irritation.
It may also may react with skin products, for example product that contain benzoyl peroxide, sulfur, acids (not including Hylaronic acid) and vitamin c can react to retinol.
What we would suggest is lowering your dose of retinol to 3 - 4 times weekly at night until your skin has built up a tolerance to it and using The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil at night as it's full of vitamins, antioxidants and essential fatty acids that are known to correct dark spots and hydrate dry, itchy skin, all while reducing scars and fine lines.

Can I use this around eyes area?

I would recommend not to use The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 5% in Squalane around the eye contour as this could irritate your eyes, I would recommend to use a anti wrinkle eye cream.

How would the 5% differ to the 2% on the skin? Is it more likely to cause irritation to sensitive skin?

If you have not used a high strength Retinoid product before, it is recommended to start your routine with the Retinol 0.2% in Squalane and then go to a higher strength once your skin has built up an intolerance.
