This water-free solution contains 0.2% pure Retinol, an ingredient that can reduce the appearances of fine lines, of photo damage and of general skin ageing. While Retinol has been studied extensively, it is irritating to the skin and newer technologies exist that mimic the visible effects of Retinol without causing skin irritation. For this reason, The Ordinary generally recommends using Granactive Retinoid 2% or Granactive Retinoid 5% instead of this formula.

Water-free, alcohol-free, nut-free, vegan, gluten-free, soy-free.

Directions

Apply a small amount to face in the PM as part of your skincare regimen, after water serums but before heavier treatments. Do not use with other retinoid treatments. Avoid unprotected solar exposure. Store in a cool, dry place.

Squalane, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Retinol, Solanum Lycopersicum (Tomato) Fruit Extract, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, BHT.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very Oily and Non Effective I do find this product very oily and it doesn’t seem to blend into my skin. So I’m not sure if it is doing much for my skin. I have been using The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% +B5 and like it much better. For reference I am in my mid sixties. And along with taking proper care of my skin, I do also ingest a lot of Collagen products daily and use sunscreen on my face.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Too strong for sensitive skin Even with squalane this was too irritating. I have mature sensitive combination skin. My skin became dehydrated using this product even with moisturizer. I probably need a retinol alternative. I used a barrier cream to deal with the dehydration

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love It! My skin loves this product! I am relatively but not completely new to retinol. I have been using it nightly for about two weeks now, and I can definitely tell a difference already with acne. I love the oily formulation, it feels moisturizing, and I have not had any peeling or dryness that I have with prescription vitamin A products. I will probably titrate up at some point, but for now, I’m loving this product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Seeing results! I’ve been using the retinol 0.2% for almost 2 months and I can definitely see a difference on the fine lines on my forehead. Maybe eventually I will use the stronger percentage if needed but so far so good. I only have to use a very little bit and make sure I moisturize after about 15 minutes of it absorbing into my skin.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not sure whether it suits me or not I used the 0.2 retinol for the first time last time and it was ok at the time. I patch tested the night before and there was no irritation or anything but since this morning my skin has been a bit irritated and I see dark spots in my cheek. I am planning to use it after a week, but should I continue to use it or just assume that it is not suiting me stop using it altogether

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Squalane is an effective carrier Turns out, I really like the squalene oil, and I feel the retinol penetrates nicely without being too sticky. As a a retinol newbie, this retinol works better than the cream I used, and the price is a bargain. I put TO Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% serum underneath, and the results are pretty quickly apparent. I intend to scale up to TO 1.0% retinol. Very pleased

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very effective The retinol serums have been the most effective product I've tried from The Ordinary. I now understand why it's a superstar ingredient. After starting this serum every other day at night, I had multiple people tell me I was looking younger (without knowing my skincare routine). It has made my skin smoother and plumper, and been more effective (so far) at fading hyperpigmentation than the alpha arbutin, vitamin C, niacinamide, and acids I've also been using. This one didn't cause any irritation or dryness, whereas the 0.5% has a bit. The only downside is the fact that it has to be refrigerated, so you can't use it when travelling. I didn't stop using it after three months but used the whole bottle up; I'd be interested in knowing the rate of decay of the retinol and how effective it might still be after 3 months.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it!! I genuinely love this retinol serum because it’s not too intense since I’m a beginner to retinols..

Hi Is this product ok to use around the eye area?

Asked by: Sophie
Hi there, Retinol can cause significant irritation, redness and peeling, especially around the eyes and mouth which means we would not recommend using this around the eye area. Hope this helps! Thanks Katie, Beauty Expert.

Hello, can i use this product at the same time as the ordinary caffeine solution? Thank you for your help, Petra

Asked by: Petra Pogorelc - Trud
Hi, You can use the The Ordinary Retinol 0.2% in Squalane and The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG together are the are designed for different purposes. The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG reduces appearance of eye contour pigmentation and of puffiness and The Ordinary Retinol 0.2% in Squalane is designed to be used on the face only avoiding the eye area because of its strength. Retinol reduces the appearances of fine lines, photo damage and of general skin ageing. Hope this helps! Thanks Katie, Beauty Expert.

Hi there, can I ask would this be the best product to start with when tryin retinol for the first time? If not which would you recommend? Mamy thanks.

Asked by: Laura
Hello, I would recommend the The Ordinary Retinol 0.2% in Squalane 30ml to be the best product to try when introducing a retiniol in to your skin care routine. When first introducing Retinol you may wish to use a few times per week and gradually increase to every evening. Happy shopping! Thanks, Yasmin - Beauty Expert

I'm 24 and I don't think I'm going to have to worry about wrinkles for a few years, but I have noticed the appearance of open pores either side of my nose where I think the skin is starting to lose it's elasticity. Is retinol for me or is it too early?
